Best Fabrics for Kids' Clothes in Abu Dhabi's Heat

In Abu Dhabi, fabric choice matters more than almost anything else when you are buying kids' clothes. The right material keeps your child cool, dry and comfortable. The wrong one leads to overheating, rashes and miserable afternoons. Here is a simple, practical guide.
Why fabric matters so much here
For most of the year, daytime temperatures are high and humidity along the coast adds to it. Children regulate their body temperature less efficiently than adults, so breathable, moisture friendly fabrics are not a luxury. They are how you keep a toddler comfortable through a day out.

The best fabrics for the heat
- Organic cotton is our top pick. Soft, breathable, gentle on sensitive and eczema prone skin, and free from many of the chemicals used in conventional fabric processing. It is what we use across the Dinooz collection for exactly this reason.
- Regular cotton is still excellent, being breathable and washable. Just check it is a high cotton percentage and not a heavy synthetic blend.
- Muslin or cotton gauze is wonderfully light and airy, great for babies and very hot days.
- Linen blends are breathable and cool, though they crease easily.
What to avoid for daytime wear
- Heavy polyester and acrylic, which trap heat and moisture against the skin.
- Thick fleece, which is best saved for air conditioned indoor spaces and the short cooler season.
- Tight, non stretch synthetics, which restrict movement and airflow.
A quick rule of thumb
If you would not be comfortable wearing it outside in July, your child will not be either. When in doubt, choose light coloured, loose, breathable cotton.
