Loading contentA button down shirt is the piece parents reach for when a photograph is going to be taken. Ours are made to survive that job and then the rest of the day, in cotton soft enough that a child forgets they are dressed up. The details that matter on a children's shirt are unglamorous ones: buttons sewn on properly so the third one down does not vanish, a collar that holds its shape after washing rather than curling at the points, and a body cut with enough room through the shoulders that arms go up without the hem coming untucked. In the UAE a shirt also has to work across a wide temperature range, worn open over a tee in a cold restaurant and buttoned in the heat outside, so a breathable weave does more work here than it would elsewhere. Ours range from crisp checks and stripes for school style dressing to softer prints for weekends. Sizes run from baby through the early school years, with free delivery across the Emirates over AED 200.
Look at the buttons and the collar first. Buttons should be shank sewn and reinforced, and the collar should have enough structure to sit flat without being stiff. Those two details decide whether a shirt still looks smart on its tenth wear.
The same shirt covers far more occasions than it looks like it will. Buttoned with a tie it works for Eid or a school photograph, and worn open over a plain tee with shorts it becomes an ordinary weekend outfit rather than a special one.
Sizing: Shirts are cut with room through the shoulders. If your child is between sizes, take the size up so raising their arms does not pull the shirt out. See the full size guide.
