Loading contentIn most countries a children's sweatshirt is a winter item. In the UAE it is an air conditioning item, worn for eleven months of the year in shopping centres, cinemas, classrooms and cars where the temperature drops twenty degrees the moment you walk through a door. That changes what a good one looks like. It needs to be light enough to carry in a bag all day without anyone resenting it, quick to pull on over whatever the child is already wearing, and made from cotton rather than a heavy fleece that becomes unbearable the second you step back outside. Ours are knit in a midweight loopback cotton, soft on the inside without the bulk of brushed fleece, with ribbed cuffs that stay put when sleeves get pushed up. A crew neck goes over the head easily and does not add a hood to get caught on playground equipment. Colours are kept simple so a sweatshirt works over any tee already in the drawer, which is the whole point of a layer. Sizes run through the toddler and early school years, delivered across the Emirates with free delivery over AED 200.
We would rather show you nothing than pad this page with pieces that are not sweatshirts. Join the list and we will email you when the next drop lands, or browse the full shop in the meantime.
Browse the full shopFleece traps heat, which is fine in a cold climate and miserable in a UAE car park. A midweight cotton sweatshirt takes the edge off indoor air conditioning and can be pulled off the moment you step outside without the child overheating first.
The most useful sweatshirt is the one that lives in the car or the nursery bag permanently. That argues for light and packable over thick and warm, and for a colour that goes with everything rather than one specific outfit.
Sizing: Sweatshirts are meant to go over another top, so they are cut roomy. Order the usual age size unless you want to layer heavily, then size up. See the full size guide.
