Children's sleepwear in the UAE has an unusual brief, because the bedroom is almost always air conditioned while the world outside it is not. That means pyjamas here are rarely about warmth and almost always about breathability: a child who sleeps in synthetic fabric under air conditioning will still wake up clammy, because the fabric traps moisture even when the room is cool. Cotton solves that by moving moisture away from the skin and letting the temperature the air conditioning is providing actually reach the child. Ours are cut loose through the body so nothing pulls when a child turns over, with flat seams and a soft covered elastic waist that does not press into the stomach during sleep. Fastenings are kept minimal, since anything a child has to negotiate at bedtime is an argument waiting to happen, and long sleeve sets exist for bedrooms kept genuinely cold. Sleep is also where fabric spends the most continuous hours against skin, roughly half of every day, which is a good reason to prefer organic cotton for children prone to eczema.
