Newborn Essentials Checklist for UAE Parents

Preparing for a new baby in the UAE is exciting, and a little overwhelming. Shops are full of tiny outfits, but you actually need fewer pieces than the lists suggest, and the climate changes what matters. Here is a clear, practical newborn clothing checklist for parents in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and across the Emirates.

The fabric rule comes first

Newborn skin is delicate and babies overheat easily, especially in the UAE. Choose soft organic cotton for almost everything. It is breathable, gentle on sensitive skin, and easy to wash. Skip heavy synthetics and thick fleece except for short trips into very cold air conditioning.

The newborn clothing checklist

• 6 to 8 bodysuits in organic cotton, with envelope shoulders for easy changes.
• 6 to 8 sleepsuits with built in feet for sleep and lounging.
• 2 to 3 light cardigans or jackets for air conditioned indoor spaces.
• 4 to 6 pairs of socks or booties, which always go missing, so buy a few.
• 2 to 3 soft hats, a light one for sun and a slightly warmer one for indoors.
• 2 to 3 swaddles or muslin wraps in breathable cotton gauze.
