How to Pack Kids' Clothes for a Holiday: A UAE Parent's Guide

Every parent has overpacked for a family trip and come home with clothes the kids never wore. The fix is a small capsule wardrobe: a handful of mix and match pieces in a shared colour palette, so everything goes with everything. Here is how to pack kids' clothes for a holiday without the bulging suitcase.
Build a mix and match capsule
Pick a simple palette and choose pieces that all combine. A few coordinated sets plus a couple of extra tops and bottoms create far more outfits than a pile of random clothes, and they take up less space.

A sample 4 day capsule (per child)
- 4 to 5 tops in breathable cotton that mix with everything.
- 3 bottoms (shorts, joggers or a skirt) in matching tones.
- 1 to 2 sets for travel days and outings.
- 1 light layer for plane and hotel air conditioning.
- Sleepwear, socks and swimwear as needed for the destination.
Scale the numbers to the trip length, but resist doubling them. You can usually wash midway.
Choose easy care fabrics
Travel is hard on clothes, so pick durable, quick drying cotton that does not crease badly and washes easily in a sink or hotel laundry. For more on fabrics, see our fabric guide.
Get sizing right before you pack
There is nothing worse than packing clothes your child has just grown out of. Check the fit using our size guide before the trip.
